A Chile Winter: La Chascona

Photo-blogging Chile with Maria Barragan-Santana. Watch for more of Maria’s photos as the summer (or winter, as it may be) goes on! Updates Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

This is one of Pablo Neruda‘s three houses. La Chascona was named after Neruda’s secret love, Matilde Urrutia, who was known for her abundant red hair. In one of his poems Neruda recalled the house — “La casa Chascona con agua que corre escribiendo en su idioma,” La Chascona with water that runs writing in its language. Beautiful in words and in reality.
